Spending money, or having the creativity of Michelangelo, is not important when gardening for your first time. Garden enhancements usually begin with uncomplicated changes that most of us can do. In some cases, this has to do with the plants, flowers or vegetables themselves, as when you pay attention to their colors. Creativity is the key when you decide to decorate your
garden. Just be imaginative and you will do fine.
Lack of space is a common problem for many gardeners. One way to overcome the lack of space is to use a glass container or a terrarium to put your plants in. A herb garden is perfect for a terrarium, and this can be a very attractive indoor garden. Not having to water the herbs as often, because the moisture is retained in the enclosed environment, gives an advantage to this type of garden. An aquarium that is normally used for fish can be used as a large terrarium, or several small glass containers can also be used. You'd probably want to choose small herbs for this type of garden, as they will be easier to manage.
A lot of people don't think of adding birds to their garden, but they can really add to the ambience of your yard with their songs and colors. When you see a variety of birds flitting around in your garden, the atmosphere will be much more alive and colorful. You can attract birds in several different ways. Some aromatic fruit trees will not only make your garden smell nice in the spring when they bloom, but when the fruit ripens, birds will be attracted to the scent of the ripened fruit. You could go to your local garden store and buy one of those old-fashioned birdbaths and put it in the center of your garden. Even when it's empty, it will lend an decorative touch to the area. For old-time charm, find a spot in your yard or garden to set up a birdhouse and make sure it always has a good supply of birdseed. Once the birds discover the food, they will not be able to stay away. Imagine waking up to the chirping of your "bird family" and observing them as they cavort all over your yard. This can hold your interest for hours on end.
Nothing will make your garden more beautiful and noticeable than having a variety of exotic and colorful flowers. There are many choices for flowers, and depending on where you live you can find some that will grow easily enough. Orchids, for example, are always impressive and come in all different colors. They will grow just about anywhere. Your garden might be the right spot for the Calathea, a plant native to South America, that normally is grown indoors, but can be found outside. They are sensitive to the sun, when grown outside in a garden, so a shady place would be better for them. An exotic flower, that is native to the Himalayas and does well in cooler climates, is the Cymbidium. Of all of the many exotic flowers that you could grow in your garden, these are just a few.
Creative gardening means different things to different people. In the final analysis, you can pretty much arrange your garden however you please as long as you give your plants a good place to grow with all the sunshine and water they require. The possibilities are endless - all it takes is a little creativity and imagination on your part - and you can enjoy a garden that really is a reflection of you.
